Community Bulletin Board

From time to time, we hear about social events, professional development activities, and service opportunities that may be of interest to our members, but that YGL-B isn't planning or co-sponsoring. To share news about these and other items (e.g., job announcements, community events, etc.), we've created this section on our website to be a resource for YGL-B members, an electronic "Community Bulletin Board." If you have an announcement for possible inclusion on the bulletin board, send it to the YGL-B Communications Director at communications@yglbethesda.org, or to any other YGL-B officer. We'll give members a heads up in our next newsletter whenever new items are posted.

Support YGL in the Govloop Charity Challenge!

posted Dec 13, 2011 4:40 PM by Ned Culhane Jr.   [ updated Dec 13, 2011 4:43 PM ]

Please see below message from YGL National President, Dave Uejio!  Please lend your support YGL-B Members!

Greetings!

2011 has been a banner year for YGL. We founded new chapters across the country, joined 500 aspiring government leaders at the Next Generation of Government Summit [1], rocked [2] tons ofresumes, and hosted social networking, professional development, and volunteerism events to benefit our members.

I’m honored tohave kicked of my term as President amidst such excitement, and we haven't even scratched the surface. YGL has 5 epic  new initiatives planned for 2012 to help you grow in your career.

To do this, we really need your help; YGL has never charged dues, and under my leadership that trend will continue; however hosting events, planning webinars, and booking venues costs money; to help offset those costs we’ve partnered with supporters and even reached into our own pockets.

Today I’m asking you to take the next step; While I’m not asking you to spend your money to support us I am asking you to spend Govloop’s money. Aggressively. With Zeal.

As part of their annual charity challenge, YGL is competing with our friends at Federally Employed Women (FEW). All you have to do to help us win is “Awesome” this post:

http://www.govloop.com/profiles/blogs/govloop-2011-charity-challenge-young-government-leaders-ygl [3]

That’s it: 1 click, 5 bucks for YGL, and if we beat FEW we get an extra $1000. Just a single trip to Govloop helps us help you. And if you’re a YGL member and somehow not a Govloop member, what are you waiting for? Take a second to discover the most vibrant community of practice for the business of government.

Thanks again for your support, and Happy Holidays from YGL!

Dave

Ran across a tweet today by Steve Ressler, GovLoop founder, and thought I'd share with YGL-B.  Make sure to follow Steve @govloop

Join in the celebration! This cool, new (FREE!) event, hosted by GovLoop and the Washington City Paper, at McFadden's will bring together Federal employees and 30 charities to build upon the successful launch of this year’s Combined Federal Campaign of the National Capital Area, the workplace giving campaign for Federal employees.

Every year during the CFCNCA giving drive, you receive a brochure with hundreds of charities.  But do you really know the do-gooders behind the descriptions?

In a fun and relaxed setting, Federal employees will have an opportunity to network and meet face to face with some of the more than 4,000 charities participating in the CFCNCA. New Federal employees are encouraged to attend to learn more about the campaign and how to get involved.

Now on to the details:

Date: Wednesday, November 16, 2011

Time: 5:30-8:30 PM

Location: McFadden's Restaurant and Saloon (2401 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20037)

Registration: To attend, please sign up here

Note: this event is restricted to Federal Employees

Know of an Outstanding Federal Employee?

posted Nov 6, 2011 3:29 PM by Ned Culhane Jr.

If you know of a federal employee whose work deserves national recognition, consider nominating that individual for a 2012 Samuel J. Heyman Service to America Medal.  The Sammies are the most prestigious awards honoring our nation's public servants and pay tribute to America's dedicated federal workforce.

The deadline for nomination submissions is January 6, 2012 and you may submit your nomination at http://servicetoamericamedals.org/SAM/nominations/.  Additional information about the award including this year's recipients is found at www.servicetoamericamedals.org.

YGL-B Volleyball Teams Survey

posted Oct 25, 2011 9:47 PM by Saloni Nayar

Are You Ready to Bump, Set, Spike?
YGL-B has formed co-ed volleyball teams the last two winter seasons via Social Sports of Bethesda.  That time of year is quickly approaching and we would like to gauge interest for season 3--the year we bring home the championship!

When: Tentatively, the season would start in early January and run through February/March.
  • Social Sports of Bethesda League: Cost is $70/person and games would be Thursdays starting January 5th between 6 and 11 PM. Details on Bethesda Social Sports  league can be found here.
  • Social Sports of DC League: we’re looking into this, but information is not available yet.  We anticipate it will be similar to the Bethesda league.
Interested? Please fill out this survey by Wednesday, November 2nd to indicate your interest.  We will reach out to those who express interest with exact details.

Questions:  Contact Ned Culhane at general@yglbethesda.org with any questions.
